Today we finished Microteaching II. Overall, I feel good about my indirect teaching lesson, although there are definitely some things that could be streamlined and improved. I'm looking forward to your comments!
Your lesson was really good. I never felt overwhelmed with information and you had such a welcoming presence that I felt free to ask as many clarifying questions as I wanted. Also, I thought it was great that you questioned me before I started “predating.” Even though I thought I knew what was expected of me during that part of the activity, I was clearly on a different page. Knowing what your students are comprehending will serve you well in the future. The only nitpicky item I will point out is that the exit slip seemed too broad and as such it left room for misinterpretation; like how Karen thought the first topic was in regards to a person. Had the exit slip been something in which we just wrote down the answer without discussing, I would have made the same mistake. Also once the topic was clarified, I was still hazy on the connection to natural selection. So maybe asking a more specific question would have been helpful. Although I will say I clearly saw the connection to your second exit slip topic. Overall, your lesson was informative and engaging. By the end I clearly understood how the activity we did was slightly different from natural selection and what factors need to occur for natural selection to exist. Great job!
Jean, First of all, I loved your lesson, it was very engaging. Your beginning, middle and end seemed to all mesh and made sense to me. I was a bit confused at the beginning. I think it would have helped to demonstrate a round with the teacher and a student in the front of the classroom before letting the students break off into groups. I think it would eliminate a lot of questions later on. You had my attention throughout the whole class and I liked how encouraging you were. I learned more about natural selection through this game than any direct lecture. Thank you!
Hey Jean I haven't received an email from you yet. . . just giving you a heads up in case you already tried. . .
